How are grants decided?
Consideration of Needs
The CBF can only consider grants to cover unmet needs. These are needs that cannot be met by any form of State Benefit i.e. needs other than food, clothing, footwear, rent, council tax, water charges, various housing costs and home care fees. Costs that may be covered include car running costs, essential travel, holidays, non NHS medical costs, unusual capital items and exceptional personal costs. These may be considered for a grant on a discretionary basis. As Pension Credit and various housing benefits are intended to cover a range of needs, applicants need to understand that the level of CBF disbursements will be relatively modest.
Consideration of Income
It is a condition of the fund that you have applied to the state for all benefits that you are due before you apply to the fund for assistance. All state benefits you are entitled to, even if you do not claim them will be considered as income.
Whether you live independently or in a Camphill Community, you will be requested to give details of all income and capital assets that you hold. These include state pensions, benefits, annuities, rental of owned property, investments etc. If you are married or living as part of a shared household, details of both your and your partner’s income and needs will be requested. By ‘partner’ we mean a husband, wife or civil partner; or the person with whom you live as if they were a husband, wife or civil partner.’
Information provided by you or your community is generally taken on trust, but the Benevolent Fund may in certain situations request appropriate evidence including bank and other financial statements.
